2007-2008 Budget Information

Colfax County has a fiscal year (July 1 – June 30) operating budget of $9,309,160.69 for 2007-2008.

$3,058,164.05 of the whole budget comes from property taxes. The new county levy is .3731 and cannot exceed .5000 and must include any rural fire district levies, county Ag Society levy and Platte Valley Drainage levy. The combined levy of the county and the miscellaneous levies is .4486. This allows for growth of approximately $421,283.26 in additional property taxes before the county and miscellaneous funds will reach the maximum levy of .5000.

The county maintains a $1,000,000.00+ balance in the Inheritance Tax Fund. These funds are used for emergency expenses only.

The county carries $634,500.00 in cash reserves. These cash reserves sustain the county operations during times when revenues are low during the year and guarantees a cash balance forward at the beginning of a new fiscal year.

The commissioners and various county offices have submitted their proposed budget requests for 2007-2008. Current valuation certified by the assessor shows the county valuation at $819,617,220.00.

The budget has been adopted and approved. A copy is on file with the State Auditor and county clerk.
